The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 4.0c

SYMPTOMS
========

If you print handout pages or outlines from PowerPoint and specify a
discontinuous range of slides to print, PowerPoint starts a new page for
each range selected. For example, if you choose to print handouts (six per
page) of slides 1 through 3, slide 5, and slides 8 through 10, you will get
slides 1 through 3 on the first page, slide 1 through 5 on the second page,
and slides 8 through 10 on the third page.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in PowerPoint versions 4.0,
4.0a, and 4.0c for Windows. This problem was corrected in PowerPoint
version 7.0 for Windows 95.

WORKAROUND
==========

To print handouts of a discontinuous range of slides without starting a new
page for each range, hide the slides you don't want to print, and print the
entire presentation:

1. Open your presentation and choose Slide Sorter from the View menu.

2. Hold down the SHIFT key and click each slide that you don't want to
   appear on your handouts.

3. From the Tools menu, choose Hide Slide.

4. From the File menu, choose Print.

5. Under Pages, select the All option.

6. Under Print What, select Handouts (2, 3, or 6 per page).

7. Make sure that Print Hidden Slides is not selected.

8. Choose OK.

Your handouts will print contiguously without the undesired slides.

The above workaround will not work for printing outlines. The option to
Print Hidden Slides is unavailable (dimmed), so you cannot turn it off.
Currently, there is no workaround.
