SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to open a Microsoft Works version 1.0 database or
spreadsheet document in Works 4.0, the following message is displayed:

   There is no translator available to import the file <File Name>.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods:

Method 1: Open and save the Works 1.0 document in Works 2.0. Then, open it
          in Works 4.0.

Method 2: Save the Works 1.0 spreadsheet or database document as a text
          file in Works 1.0 before you open it in Works 4.0. To do this,
          follow these steps:

          a. Open the Works 1.0 spreadsheet or database document in Works
             1.0.

          b. From the File menu, choose Save As.

          c. In the File Name box, type in a new name.

          d. Select the Export File check box.

          e. Click the Save button.

             NOTE: If the document you are saving is a Spreadsheet, the
             Save As dialog box will appear. You do not have to change the
             settings in this box.

          f. Open Works 4.0 and choose Existing Documents in the Microsoft
             Works Startup dialog box. Click OK.

          g. In the Open Document dialog box, make sure All Available is
             displayed in the File Format box.

             If All Available is not displayed, choose All Available from
             the File Format list.

          h. Click the name of the file you want to open.

             If the file is on another drive, click the Desktop button to
             change drives. If the file you want is in a different folder,
             choose a folder from the list, or use the pop-up list.

          i. Click the Open button.

             NOTE: If the document you are importing is a database
             document, you will be prompted to select how you want the
             database fields to be separated. Keep the default, which is
             Tabs.
