SYMPTOMS
========
 
When you run ScanDisk for Windows (SCANDSKW.EXE) you may receive the
following error message:
 
   ScanDisk cannot check this drive now because the disk is
   not properly formatted, or a program such as a disk utility
   has locked it. Format the disk or wait for the utility to
   finish, and then restart ScanDisk.
 
CAUSE
=====
 
If you unmount a compressed drive and then run ScanDisk for Windows, the
unmounted drive is available for checking. If you select this drive, you
receive the above error message.
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
Mount the compressed volume file (CVF) using DriveSpace, and then run
ScanDisk for Windows again on the compressed drive.
 
STATUS
======
 
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Windows 95. We are
researching this problem and will post new information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
