The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 4.0c
 - Microsoft Word for Windows, version 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

Text or other PowerPoint objects will be hidden when printed over a
bitmapped picture. This problem occurs when you are using the Hewlett-
Packard (HP) Color PostScript driver version 2.1.1. This driver is used
with the HP1200c or XL300 printers with a PostScript option. Any bitmap-
type graphic will be printed above text, PowerPoint objects, or vector
graphics (such as the clipart from ClipArt Gallery), even though the other
objects are placed on top of the bitmap.

If you use another color PostScript driver based on the generic Windows
PostScript driver, your file will be printed correctly.

CAUSE
=====

This is a problem with the HP/Adobe printer driver. This driver uses
Adobeps.drv instead of the Windows generic PScript.Drv driver. Switching
to another PostScript color driver using Pscript.drv will correct the
problem.

RESOLUTION
==========

The Tektronix Phaser 200i driver will work with both the HP1200c and the
XL300 printers. It does not send bitmapped graphics in a compressed mode,
thus requiring more time to print than the 2.1.1 driver. You can load the
Tektronix driver as a second driver, allowing you to switch between the
two, depending on your requirements.

Install a replacement printer driver. To obtain the Tektronix Phaser 200i
driver, download the Tektro.exe file. For more information about
downloading this file, please see the More Information section of this
article.

If you receive a message while installing the Tektronix driver stating
that you have a more current driver, this refers to the version of the
Pscript.drv file found in your Windows\System folder (directory). Choose
No to avoid replacing the newer driver already installed on your computer.
The Tektronix driver will still be properly installed and will use the
newer version of Pscript.drv that you already have.

The bitmap printing problem also occurs in Word version 6.0 for Windows
when you try to place a vector graphic over a bitmap. Both Publisher 2.0
and Works 3.0 for Windows work properly with the Adobe 2.1.1 driver and
do not exhibit this problem.
