SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to run the Microsoft Money Setup program, your computer
may stop responding (hang), or you may receive an error message similar to
the following:

Cannot read from drive <drive letter>

   -or-

acmsetup caused an illegal instruction in module mnysetup.dll

NOTE: This is only one of several possible similar error messages.

CAUSES
======

This problem may occur for either of the following reasons:

 - Your computer does not recognize the Diamond Compression format of the
   Money Setup disks.

 - Your computer has only 2 MB of RAM and is unable to extract the 1.3 MB
MSMONEY.1 file from the first setup disk. This problem is especially
prevalent on computers with only 2 megabytes (MB) of RAM.

RESOLUTIONS
===========

Use one of the three methods explained below appropriate for your problem.

Method 1
--------

Contact Microsoft to order low-density Setup (non-Diamond) disks.

Method 2
--------

If your computer has more than 2 MB of RAM, and you encounter problems when
you attempt to insert the second disk during Setup, you may be able to
install Microsoft Money by doing the following:

1. Create a directory named "Setup" (without the quotation marks) on your
   hard disk drive.

2. Copy the files from the Money disks to the Setup directory.

3. From Program Manager, start the SETUP.EXE file from the Setup
directory.

For more information about how to perform this task in Windows, see your
Windows printed documentation or online Help.

Method 3
--------

The following steps install Money without using the Setup program. For more
information about how to perform this task in Windows, see your Windows
printed documentation or online Help.

1. Create a MSMONEY directory on your hard disk drive.

2. Copy the files from the Money disks to the MSMONEY directory. (If you
are unable to copy these files use Method 2 above.)

3. At the MS-DOS prompt, change to the MSMONEY directory, and type the
   following:

      Extract /a MSMONEY.1 *.*

NOTE: The "/a" switch indicates that your computer should read
   MSMONEY.2 after it reads MSMONEY.1

4. In the MSMONEY directory, create a subdirectory called MONEYCBT.

5. Move the following files to the MONEYCBT subdirectory:

      CBTLIB4.DLL
      MSMONEY1.CBT
      MSMONEY2.CBT
      PLAY.EXE
      PLAY.ICO

6. Move the following files to the WINDOWS directory:

      COINTABL.WAV
      KERCHUNK.WAV

7. Move the CTL3DV2.DLL file to the Windows SYSTEM subdirectory.

8. Start Windows. In Program Manager, create a Money program group and
icons, or use My Computer to find the MSMONEY.EXE file and drag it onto
the Desktop to create a Shortcut to Money.

For more information about how to perform this task in Windows, see your
Windows printed documentation or online Help.

9. Delete the 7 files from your hard drive that were originally copied from
the disks (for a list of these files, see the "Contents of Money Setup
   Disks" section below).
