The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Money versions 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0
 - Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.5
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

If you are using Microsoft Money under Microsoft Windows NT 3.5 operating
system, the Report And Chart Printing and Check Printing options in the
Print Setup dialog box are unavailable.

You cannot change the type of check you are using or the printer to which
the checks are being sent from the Print Setup dialog box.

WORKAROUNDS
===========

Selecting and Changing Check Types
----------------------------------

To select the check type when you use Money version 2.0 or 3.0 under
Windows NT 3.50, choose Print Checks from the File menu. If a check type
has never been selected in this .MNY file, a Select Check Type dialog box
appears where you can choose the specific check type.

To change the type of check, do the following:

1. Export each account that currently exists in the .MNY file.

2. Create a new .MNY file and import the account information that was
   exported in the previous step.

3. On the File menu, choose Print Checks, and select the specific
check type that you need when the Select Check Type dialog box
   appears.

Money version 1.0 does not have a Select Check Type dialog box. In Money
1.0, you must use the default check type (which is the standard 3.5-inch by
8.5-inch dot-matrix check).

Changing Printers
-----------------

To select a printer for printing checks, you normally choose either the
default or a specific printer after selecting Check Printing from the Print
Setup dialog box. This option is unavailable when you use Money under
Microsoft Windows NT; Money will only print checks to the printer that was
set as the default the first time that checks were printed from a specific
.MNY file.

In windows NT, if you need to change the printer where you print checks, do
the following:

1. Open Control Panel, usually located in the Main program group. Double-
   click the Printers icon.

2. In Windows NT, this starts Print Manager. Select the printer
you want to use from the Default window in the Print Manager.

Although this changes the printer that Money uses for
Report and Chart printing, the printer information for printing
checks won't be changed until you open a new .MNY file.

3. Export each account that currently exists in the .MNY file.

4. Create a new .MNY file and import the account information that was
exported in the previous step. When you print checks from this new
file, Money queries the Control Panel (because checks have not
been printed from this file yet) and sends the check information to
   the new default printer.

Microsoft Windows NT Dual Boot Option
-------------------------------------

If you are using Microsoft Windows NT on a computer that also has Microsoft
Windows 3.1 or Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 installed, you can use
the dual boot capabilities of Windows NT to start one of these other
versions of Windows. Once you are running Windows 3.1 or Windows for
Workgroups 3.11, you can open Money and change the check type or the
designated printer for the checks. Because this information is stored in
the .MNY file, the changes will be retained when the .MNY file is opened up
again under Windows NT.
