   B. Common Error Messages
   =========================================================

B8. Device Conflict on COM 3
------------------------------------------------------------
This problem is related to the problem listed above
in section B6 containing steps for resolving the error
"No PC Card Installed on COM 3."

B9. Waited too Long for Response
------------------------------------------------------------
This error message in the Communication module of Works
can be caused by a variety of problems with the
communication between Works and your modem. Below is
   a list of possible causes.

   1. External Modem's Power is not On
Solution: Turn the external modem's power on.
   2. Port Settings May Be Incorrect
Solution: In the Communications module, make sure the port
settings match in the Modem Setup and Communications Settings
dialog boxes. From the Settings menu choose Modem. Note the
communication port in use. From the Settings menu, choose
Communication. Set the port to match the setting in the Modem
        Setup dialog box.
   3. Baud Rate May Be Set Incorrectly
Solution: Set the baud rate in the Control Panel to the maximum
rate the modem supports. The baud rate Works is using is shown
by selecting Communication from the Settings menu. This baud
rate cannot be higher than what the modem supports. The rate
indicated here is controlled by the Control Panel settings for
the port. If the rate is higher than the modem supports,
        complete the following steps:

        - Exit Works.
        - Run Windows Control Panel and choose the Ports icon.
        - Choose the port Works is using for communication.
        - Select the Settings Tab.
        - Change the baud rate to the rate the modem supports.
        - Select OK to accept the new baud rate.
        - Close the Ports Settings dialog.
        - Exit the Control Panel.
        - Restart Works and create a new Communication document.
        - From the Settings menu, choose Communication and verify that
the rate matches the one you selected in the Windows Control
           Panel.

   4. Advanced Settings May Have Been Changed to Invalid Strings
Solution: Use the Restore button to reset strings to the Works
defaults. From the Settings menu, choose Modem and choose the
Advanced button. If any of the settings have been changed, use
the Restore button to return them to the defaults.
   5. Modem Cable May Be Damaged
        Solution: Replace the modem cable.

B10. Not Enough Memory to Undo
------------------------------------------------------------
The Works error message "Not enough memory to undo" means
that Works is unable to undo your request if you change
your mind after Works has completed your request. It does
not mean that Works cannot complete your request. When
you encounter this error, we recommend that you choose
Cancel, then Save your document. Saving the document
creates your own UNDO feature and you can revert to the
last save if you change your mind after executing a
command that Works said it could not undo.

B11. Operator Missing or Not Valid
------------------------------------------------------------
If you receive this error message while you are entering
data or a formula into the database or spreadsheet, the
list separator in the International Settings section of
the Windows Control Panel may have the wrong value.
This value cannot be blank. You should either have a
comma (,) or a semi-colon (;) in the List Separator
   option.

B12. OLE Registration Database incorrect. Run Setup.
   Continue anyway?
------------------------------------------------------------
This problem can occur if you have manually moved the
Works program files, renamed the directory containing
the Works program files, reinstalled Windows, or deleted
your REG.DAT file in the Windows directory. In any case,
this problem can be resolved by running the Works for
   Windows Setup again.
