 - Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 2.0, 2.0a, 2.0a-CD, 2.0b, 2.0c

SYMPTOMS
========

When you preview a converted Word for MS-DOS document in Word 2.0 for
Windows in two-page mode, the first page of the document appears to be
blank. Text that should appear on the left pages shows on the right in
print preview, and the left page is blank. The document prints correctly,
however.

This problem does not occur in Word 6.0.

CAUSE
=====

The Word for MS-DOS converter always inserts the RTF \facingp (facing
pages) control in the RTF code it provides to Word for Windows. When Facing
Pages is active in Word 2.0 for Windows, odd pages always appear on right
in Print Preview.

WORKAROUND
==========

1. After opening the Word for MS-DOS document in Word 2.0 for Windows, save
   the document in RTF format.

2. From the Tools menu, choose Options, select the General category, and
   select the Confirm File Conversions check box.

3. Reopen the RTF file as Text Only.

4. Search for and delete the first instance of "\facingp" (without
   quotation marks) and save the file as Text Only.

5. Reopen the RTF file as RTF.

Your document will no longer display a first blank page in Print Preview.
