The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Automap Streets for Windows, versions 1.0, 1.01
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

You may receive the following error message while attempting to start the
Automap Streets program

   STREET.WMB : ERROR CANNOT OPEN FILE
   <drive>:\AUTOMAP\NBMAPS.DAT

where <drive> is the letter of your hard drive.

RESOLUTION
==========

Early versions of Automap Streets require the MS-DOS SHARE.EXE utility, or the
VSHARE.386 utility that is available with Microsoft Windows 3.11 or Microsoft
Windows for Workgroups 3.11. Create the following entry in the AUTOEXEC.BAT
file:

   C:\DOS\SHARE.EXE /l:500 /f:5100

NOTE: If SHARE.EXE or VSHARE.386 is not installed and Automap Streets is
installed to work with either Automap Road Atlas or Automap Pro, the following
error appears when you choose Change Map from the File menu and select a wide
area map:

   USA.WMB: Error could not open file.
   <Drive>:\AUTOMAP\NBMAPS.DAT

   -or-

   <Drive>:\AMWPRO\NBMAPS.DAT

Once SHARE.EXE or VSHARE.386 is installed, this error disappears and the program
functions properly.

MORE INFORMATION
================

Early versions of the Automap Streets program require either the SHARE.EXE or
VSHARE.386 utilities in order to operate. This was corrected in later builds of
the program by updating the file RGSTD.DLL so that it no longer requires file
sharing or locking.
