1. Q. When I install Microsoft Bob, it displays a message that says
my computer is set to a 16-color display, and that I need to
change my display driver to at least a 256-color driver. What does
      this mean?

   A. To solve this problem, first find out what kind of video card
you have and which driver you need. If you don't know, find out
from your dealer or computer manufacturer. Then do the following.

If You Are Using Windows 95
      ---------------------------

If you are using Windows 95, perform the following four steps:

      1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click
         Control Panel. Double-click Display.

      2. Click the Settings tab.

      3. Click 256 Color under Color Palette. If this is not
available, then first click Change Display Type to change to
         the recommended Adapter type.

      4. Click OK, and Windows 95 will either need to resize the
desktop or restart. Choose OK or Yes.

If You Are Using Windows 3.1
      ----------------------------

If you are using Windows 3.1, perform the following five steps:

      1. From Windows Program Manager, open the Main group and double-
         click the Windows Setup icon.

      2. On the Options menu, click Change System Settings.

      3. In the Display box, click the down arrow and select the 256-
color video driver your computer manufacturer recommends with
         one of the following resolutions: 640 x 480, 800 x 600, or
         1024 x 768.

      4. Click the OK button.

If Setup finds the selected device driver already on your
system, it asks if you want to use the installed driver
or install a new one. Setup may request that you insert a
Windows or vendor provided disk into drive A. If it does,
insert the disk or type the path of the appropriate device
driver file. Then choose the OK button.

A dialog box appears that contains a Restart Windows button
and may contain a Reboot button.

      5. If no Reboot button appears, click the Restart Windows
         button.

If the Reboot button appears, make sure there are no disks
in any drive, and then click the Reboot button.

If you don't see any of these resolutions, you may need a
more up-to-date driver. Call your dealer or computer
         manufacturer.

2. Q. When I install Microsoft Bob, I receive the following message:

Setup found that your computer is using an old version of its
video driver. Click Yes and Setup will update your driver,
improving the performance of Bob (see the readme for details).
If you are in doubt, Microsoft Bob recommends you choose Yes.

      What does this message mean?

   A. There are some incompatibilities between Microsoft Bob and
earlier versions of the Cirrus Logic video drivers. The Bob Setup
program has detected that you have one of these earlier drivers,
and will update it for you automatically if you choose the Yes
button. If you don't choose the Yes button, you may not be
able to run the Bob program.

3. Q. When I print from Microsoft Bob, my text, pictures, and borders
are getting cut off on the edges. Why?

   A. Every printer has an unprintable region, which is the part of
the paper that the printer can't use. If your text and pictures
are in this region, they will be cut off. In the Bob Letter
Writer, you can correct this problem by performing the following
      four-step procedure:

      1. Click the Other Options squishy.

      2. Click the Change Margins squishy.

      3. Use the slider to increase the margins.

      4. Once the desired margin is selected, click the button with
         the check mark.

4. Q. Microsoft Bob seems to be running slowly. How can I speed
      it up?

   A. You need 8 megabytes (MB) of RAM to run Microsoft Bob. If you have
the required memory and still want to improve performance, perform
      the following four steps:

      1. Close any other programs that you are using.

      2. Try not to run more than two Bob applications at one time.

      3. Try using a SmartDrive cache of 1 megabyte (MB). See the Bob
Readme.txt file for more detailed instructions about creating a
         cache.

NOTE: If you are using Windows 3.x, continue with step 4. If
you are using Windows 95, you do not need to use step 4.

      4. Set up a permanent swap file of 16 megabytes or more. For more
information about setting up swap files and improving Windows
performance, see the "Optimizing Windows" section of your
Windows printed documentation or see the online Help.

5. Q. How can I change the font and field arrangement of my labels
before I print them from the Address Book?

   A. The Bob Address Book was designed to print pre-formatted labels
in the Arial 10-point font and currently there is no way to change
      these labels.

6. Q. When I insert a picture in the Letter Writer, it appears in the
center of the page instead of where my cursor is located. How
can I move the picture to the correct position?

   A. To move the picture or any object in the Bob Letter Writer, click
and hold down the left mouse button on the picture and drag it to
the desired location. You can also click the picture once with
your right mouse button and then choose Move from the balloon
      selections.

7. Q. I just installed a program through Microsoft Bob, and now I can't
find the icon. How can I add an icon for this program?

   A. The first step would be to make sure that you don't already have
an icon set up for your program. To check this in any room, hold
down the F1 key. If you don't see your program in the room,
perform the following five steps to add it:

      1. From any room, click the Other Options squishy.

      2. Click the Add Something squishy.

      3. Click the Program squishy.

      4. Scroll through the list of programs and click the one that
you would like to add. If you don't see your program in the
list, click the squishy labeled "Have me search for other
programs on your hard disk," and your friend will find the
program and add it to the list.

      5. Once the desired program is selected, click the button with
         the check mark.

8. Q. The sounds in Microsoft Bob aren't loud enough. How can I increase
      them?

   A. To change the sound volume in Microsoft Bob, perform the following
      five steps:

      1. When you first enter the home, click the Other Options squishy.

      2. Click the Advanced Features squishy.

      3. Click the Change Audio Volume squishy.

      4. Use the slider to adjust your volume.

      5. Once the desired volume is selected, click the button with
         the Check Mark.

9. Q. I want to delete some Bob files. How do I do this?

   A. Microsoft Bob handles files a little differently than most
applications. Instead of removing Bob Documents with File
Manager in Windows 3.x or with Windows Explorer in Windows 95,
you can open each application and delete the file from there.

For example, to delete an Address Book file, perform the following
      three steps:

      1. In the Bob Address Book, click the Other Option Squishy.

      2. Delete this book squishy.

      3. Click the button with the Check Mark.
