SYMPTOMS
========

In Microsoft Project, when you move a summary task by dragging the
task to a new location on your project, any direct formatting applied
to a subtask that is part of the summary task is lost if the subtask
is collapsed when you move the summary task.

CAUSE
=====

This behavior only occurs if you move the summary task by dragging it
to a new location on the project. The formatting is not lost if you
use the Copy or Cut command to move the task. Additionally, this
problem only occurs if the subtasks are collapsed when you move the
summary task.

WORKAROUNDS
===========

To avoid losing formatting applied to a subtask when you move the
summary task, use any of the following methods.

Method 1: Use the Copy or Cut command and the Paste command (Edit menu) to
          move the summary task to a new location on your project.

Method 2: Display the subtask before you move the summary task by doing the
          following:

          a. Select the summary task that you want to move.

          b. From the Formatting toolbar, choose the Show Subtasks button.

             You can now move the summary task without losing any direct
             formatting applied to the subtasks.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products
listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem
and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
