The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Project for Windows, versions 1.0, 3.0, 3.0a, 4.0
 - Microsoft Project for Macintosh, versions 1.1, 3.0, 4.0

SUMMARY
=======

Total Slack is calculated incorrectly for tasks in a subproject if
either of the following occur:

 - The master task has a Start No Earlier Than (SNET) constraint with a
   nonworking constraint date.

   -or-

 - The master project starts on a nonworking day and the master task has an
   As Soon As Possible (ASAP) constraint.

In either case, the master task automatically moves to a working day, and
the total slack for tasks in the subproject is calculated with respect to
the subproject, instead of being calculated with respect to the master
project, as it should be.

WORKAROUND
==========

To work around this problem, use a working day for the project start date
of the master project. If the master task has an SNET constraint, then use
a working day for its constraint date.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed
at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and
will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it
becomes available.
