SYMPTOMS

In a Works 4.0 database, when you copy information from one database to
another, or when you change the format of a field, you may receive a
warning message or some of your data may disappear. For example, if you
have the following text

   Field 1

   Record 1: TEST
   Record 2: 123
   Record 3: 456
   Record 4: 7 8
   Record 5: 789

and if "Field 1" was previously formatted with the Text format, and
you then reformat the field with the Number format, either of the following
may occur:

 - You receive the following error message:

   2 cell(s) could not be converted to the destination type. From the Edit
   menu, choose Undo to recover the original data

   -or-

 - The entries in records 1 and 4 disappear because they do not fit the new
   format type.

CAUSE
=====

This problem occurs either when the previous format of the data in the
field does not correspond with the new format or when you copy or change
column formats in a spreadsheet.

RESOLUTION
==========

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Re-enter the information that has been removed.
