SYMPTOMS
========

In Microsoft Works, when you insert a PICT formatted graphic, such as a
scanned image, that contains 256 or more colors, the graphic may appear
very grainy on the screen regardless of the color setting for the monitor.

This problem usually does not occur with graphics created in Works or when
using clip art included with Works 4.0.

RESOLUTION
==========

To remove on-screen graininess of scanned images, open Works and do the
following:

1. From the File Menu, choose Open.

2. In the File Format menu, choose Pict. Select the graphic element you
   want to open and click the Open button.

4. From the Edit menu, choose Select All.

5. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.

6. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works versions 4.0, 4.0a,
and 4.0b. We are researching this problem, and will post new information
