The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Bob version 1.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY
=========

You will not be able to start Microsoft Bob if the MSBOB directory cannot
be found in the path

SYMPTOMS
========

You may receive the following error message when you try to open Microsoft
Bob if the MSBOB directory cannot be found in the path:

   File Error

   Cannot find UTOPIA.DLL

followed by the message

   Application Execution Error

   Cannot find file C:\MSBOB\HOME\HOME.EXE (or one of its components).
   Check to ensure the path and filename are correct and that all
   required libraries are available.

where C is the drive location of your MSBOB directory.

RESOLUTION
==========

For more information about how to perform these tasks in Windows, see your
Windows printed documentation or online Help.

1. Make sure the Bob Directory is located in the path statement in the
   AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

   For example, if Bob is installed in the C:\MSBOB directory, then add
   C:\MSBOB to the existing path statement:

      PATH C:\WINDOWS;C:\DOS;C:\MSBOB

2. If MSBOB is included in the path, look for multiple path statements.
   Though the MSBOB directory may be included in one path, there may be a
   second path statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file that is resetting the
   path. If this is the case add the MSBOB directory to the second
   statement.

3. If the AUTOEXEC.BAT path statement correctly contains the MSBOB
   directory, use the MS-DOS icon to start MS-DOS. At the MS-DOS command
   line prompt, type the following and press ENTER:

      set

   If the path does not include MSBOB, do the following:

   a. Change to the root directory.

   b. Search for all batch (*.BAT) files. Any batch file in the root
      directory, especially WIN.BAT, could contain a path statement that
      is overriding the normal AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS file.

NOTE: If you are on a network, or using network software, the network login
script may remap the path or drive where Microsoft Bob is installed, to
another path, or drive letter. Please consult your network administrator to
resolve this problem.
