SYMPTOMS
========
 
When you check the status of your IDE Syquest removable hard disk in
Device Manager, you see a red "X" to the left of the drive. Also, the
File System line on the Performance tab in System Properties reports
that some of your drives are using MS-DOS Compatibility mode.
 
CAUSE
=====
 
There is currently no protected-mode support for IDE Syquest removable
hard disks. The red "X" next to the drive in Device Manager indicates
that protected-mode support is not being provided for that device.
 
MORE INFORMATION
================
 
Protected-mode support is also not provided for all other devices on the
same IDE controller as the Syquest removable hard disk. Because the
Syquest drive must use real-mode drivers, access to all other devices on
the IDE controller occurs in real mode also.
