The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Project for Windows, version 4.0
 - Microsoft Project for the Macintosh, version 4.0
--------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

In Microsoft Project, if you select multiple fields on a table in your
project, and you use the Font dialog box to change the formatting of the
text in the fields, one or both of the following symptoms may occur:

 - The Size box is empty, even if all of the fonts in the selection are
   the same size.

 - When you select a font, font style, color, or underline option and
   choose OK, you receive the following error message:

      Value must be between 4 and 127

CAUSE
=====

Size Box Is Empty
-----------------

This first symptom occurs in both Microsoft Project for Windows and
Microsoft Project for the Macintosh when you select multiple fields that
contain different fonts. For example, if the Task Name field contains text
formatted using Courier, and the Duration field contains text formatted
using Times New Roman or Monaco, when you select both fields, and choose
Font from the Format menu, both the Font box and the Size box are empty.
The Font box is empty, as expected, because you have selected two different
fonts. However, the Size box should not be empty if all of the selected
fields contains the same font size; the Size box should contain the size of
the selected font.

Note that this first symptom in Microsoft Project for Windows is only a
visual limitation. Although the Size box should not be empty if the
selection contains the same font size, it does not prevent you from
formatting the selection as desired. When you choose OK in the Font dialog
box while the Size box is empty, the font size in the selection is not
modified unless you enter a new value in the Size box.

"Value Must Be Between 4 and 27" Error
--------------------------------------

The second symptom above occurs only in Microsoft Project for the
Macintosh. When you select fields that contain different fonts, the Size
box is empty in the Font dialog box as described above. However, if you
click OK in the Font dialog box while the Size box is empty, you receive
the error message described above. You cannot click OK if the Size box is
empty. This means that you cannot apply font formatting to fields that
contain different fonts without applying the same font size to the
selection.

WORKAROUNDS
===========

To apply font formatting to selected fields in Microsoft Project for the
Macintosh, use any of the following methods:

Method 1: Select fields that contain the same font size, and enter the font
          size again in the Size box before you click OK in the Font dialog
          box.

Method 2: When the font size is not the same in all selected fields, you
          must enter a value in the Size box to close the Font dialog
          box. You can then select individual fields in your project and
          apply the desired font size.
