The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Automap Road Atlas for Windows, versions 3.0, 3.02, 3.04,
   and 3.05
 - Microsoft Automap Pro, versions 1.03, 1.06, 1.08, and 1.09
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to enter a time of day followed with an A.M. or
P.M. designation in the Route Settings section, Automap fails to hold Hour
settings.

CAUSE
=====

If settings for Time Format in the Control Panel International section have
been changed to a 24-hour format and then switched back to a 12-hour
format, the settings do not default to the A.M. or P.M. designation.
Instead, the dialog boxes are blank.

WORKAROUND
==========

Use one of the following methods to restore A.M. or P.M. designations:

Method 1
--------

1. From Control Panel, usually located in the Main program group, choose
   the International icon.

2. In the Time Format section of the International dialog box, choose
   change.

3. Make sure the 12-hour format is selected. In the box to the right of
   12-hour format, type

      am

4. In the box to the right of the 24-hour format type,

      pm

5. Choose OK. The A.M. or P.M. designation returns.

Method 2
--------

1. In a text editor, such as Windows Notepad, open your WIN.INI file.

2. In the [intl] section find the following lines:

      s1159=
      s2359=

   and change them to:

      s1159=am
      s2359=pm

3. Save WIN.INI and restart Windows.

   NOTE: Restarting Windows is not required for the change to occur in
   Automap, but it is necessary to change time designations elsewhere in
   Windows.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The loss of A.M. and P.M. designations when you change from 12-hour format
to 24-hour format and then back again, effects not only Clock, but every
Windows-based application that displays time in digital format.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the products listed at the
top of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new
information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
