SYMPTOMS
========
 
When you try to match downloaded transactions from Bank On-Line, Money may
have trouble matching some transactions.
 
This is most likely to occur with transactions lacking check numbers, such
as ATM transactions.
 
CAUSE
=====
 
When Money tries to match a transaction without a check number, it uses a
process that examines transactions within a certain date range with the
exact dollar amount. If the transaction that best meets this criteria has
already been reconciled, the transaction will not be matched.
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
Set Money's Bank On-Line options to ask you to confirm every
transaction. Use the following steps:
 
1. From the Tools menu, choose Options. Choose Bank On-Line.
 
2. In the Confirm That A Transactions Matches section, select
   Every Transaction in the Ask Me To Confirm section.
 
3. Choose OK.
 
MORE INFORMATION
================
 
After you download transaction records, Microsoft Money attempts to find a
match and update the account. If the payment or deposit that Money is
trying to match does not contain a check number, Money tries to find the
transaction using the following process:
 
1. Money scrolls through the account to find all transactions
   within the date range that have the same dollar amount.
 
2. Money selects the transaction with the closest date to the
   downloaded transaction.
 
Using this criteria, Money may match a transaction with a previously
reconciled transaction. If this occurs, the new transaction is merged with
the existing transaction and will not appear in the account book.
 
However, using the steps outlined in the Resolution section of this
article, provides you the opportunity to confirm or deny any matches Money
makes. This prevents Money from matching a previously reconciled
transaction.
 
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Money versions 3.0 and 3.0a
for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information
here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
