The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Works for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 4.0a, and 4.0b

SYMPTOMS
========

If you save a Works for the Macintosh document as a Works for Windows file
using the Works file converter, then try to open that file again in Works
for the Macintosh, you may receive the following error message

   There is no translator available to import the file <filename>

where <filename> is the name of your Works file.

RESOLUTION
==========

You must open the file using an MS-DOS/Windows file name.

To convert the file, use the eight-character filename and three character
extension convention. That method combines the first eight characters of a
filename into one word, then adds a period and the correct module
extension.

For example if a Word Processor file is named "My wonder word processing
file" (without the quotation marks), it is renamed as "mywonder.wps"
(without the quotation marks).

Works for the Macintosh can now recognize and open the file.
