The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Bob version 1.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY
=========
You will not be able to complete a Mail Run if Bob is installed to the Root
Folder of the hard drive.

SYMPTOMS
========

You are able to enter Bob Mailroom, but when you attempt a Mail Run,
you get the following error message:

   Sorry I'm having e-mail connecting problems...please close all
   other programs and try again.

CAUSE
=====

This error may occur when Bob is installed to the root directory or
folder of a hard drive. For example, D:\ instead of D:\MSBOB.

During Setup, Bob asks if you want to install Bob in C:\MSBOB. If you
decide to install Bob in your D drive but fail to type \MSBOB, the program
installs in the root directory.

When Bob is installed to the root directory of a hard drive, Bob E-
mail will not operate correctly.

RESOLUTION
==========

Remove Bob and reinstall to any valid subdirectory using the following
steps.

CAUTION: Moving Bob to a different directory means Bob cannot find any
previous custom changes or personal information files, such as your
password, room changes, CheckBook and Letter Writer files.

For additional information about saving personal changes, please see the
following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

   TITLE : Moving Bob to Another Directory or Drive

The following steps assume your hard drive is drive D.

1. Run Bob Setup from the original disks. Do not use the Bob Setup
   icon. For detailed instructions setup, refer to the Bob Magazine
   Premiere Issue.

2. Click Remove All button to remove Bob.

3. Run Bob Setup again to reinstall. When prompted for the directory,
   type D:\MSBOB" for the directory, instead of D:\.

4. This step is optional but recommended to clean up duplicate
   directories (folders) on your hard drive.

   Using File Manager or Windows Explorer, delete the following directories
   from your hard drive. For more information about how to perform this
   task in Windows, see your Windows printed documentation or online Help.
