The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Bob, version 1.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY
=======

Bob was not designed to be moved from one location to another.
However, a situation may arise where it is necessary to move Bob to
another directory (folder) or hard drive.

Moving Bob to a different drive or directory is easy to do, using the
Remove All feature of the Setup program and then reinstalling Bob.

To save your personal files, however, it is necessary to manually
backup the Bob custom information files before you remove Bob. After
reinstalling in the new location, you will need to manually move the
custom information files to the new directory.

How to Move Bob to a Different Directory and Keep Custom Information
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The following steps assume you are moving Bob from the C:\MSBOB to
D:\MSBOB. Change the drive and/or directory names below if you are using
different directories and/or drives.

1. Make a backup copy of the Bob custom information files by entering
the following commands at the MS-DOS prompt and pressing the ENTER
   key after each line:

      copy c:\msbob\utopia.mdb c:\msbob\utopia.bdb

      copy c:\msbob\address\abook.mdb c:\msbob\abook.bdb

      copy c:\msbob\notebook\finance\finance.mdb c:\msbob\finance.bdb

      copy c:\msbob\notebook\home\home.mdb c:\msbob\home.bdb

      copy c:\msbob\upic.mdb c:\msbob\upic.bdb

2. Run Bob Setup from the original disks. Do not use the Bob Setup
icon. For detailed instructions, refer to the Bob Magazine
   (Premiere Issue).

3. Click the Remove All button to remove Bob.

4. Run Bob Setup again to reinstall. When you are prompted for the
directory, enter your destination (new) directory name (D:\MSBOB in
   this example).

5. The following restores most of your custom room, user, and calendar
   changes.

Enter the following commands at the MS-DOS prompt, and press ENTER
after each line. Choose Yes if you are prompted to overwrite a file.

      copy c:\msbob\utopia.bdb d:\msbob\utopia.mdb

      copy c:\msbob\abook.bdb d:\msbob\address\abook.mdb

      copy c:\msbob\finance.bdb d:\msbob\notebook\finance\finance.mdb

      copy c:\msbob\home.bdb d:\msbob\notebook\home\home.mdb

      copy c:\msbob\upic.bdb d:\msbob\upic.mdb

6. (Optional) Delete the following previously used directories from your
   hard drive:

      c:\msbob\actors
      c:\msbob\backup
      c:\msbob\calendar
      c:\msbob\home
      c:\msbob\icache
      c:\msbob\safari
      c:\msbob\setup
      c:\msbob\utopiawa

Make sure you leave these directories if they contain any personal
   files:

      Directory File Extension File Description
      ---------------------------------------------------------

C:\MSBOB\CHKBOOK CEK or CBK CheckBook file
      C:\MSBOB\LETTER UTP Letter Writer file
      C:\MSBOB\MAILROOM PST E-Mail Personal Storage

At this point, Bob will be successfully moved to the new directory or
drive.
