The following article discusses settings and selections in the Technical
Settings dialog box:

DATA PATH -- Data Path refers to the subdirectory containing the Automap
data.

CD-ROM DRIVE -- This setting specifies the letter of the CD-ROM drive if
Automap is unable to find the CD-ROM.

PRINTING INSET -- Use this setting if the object you are printing is too
close to the edge of the page, or if you want to print to the edge of the
page. The adjustment is in 1/8-inch increments (for example, default is 4
increments or 1/2-inch).

PRINTER IS COLOR -- If the printer is not printing in color and you have
confirmed that the printer driver supports color printing, select this
setting.

MAX ZOOM -- Specifies how closely you can Zoom-in. The smaller the number
is set, the closer you can Zoom.

OVERLAY MODE -- specifies how polygons (overlays for areas) are drawn when
in overlay mode. This is used for backwards compatibility for overlays
created in previous versions of Automap.

S3 BITMAP FIX -- Used only in the European version. Corrects cellular phone
coverage problems on the S3 card.

CLIP POLYGONS -- A close zoom causes some overlay areas to fill
incorrectly.

NOTE: The Clip Polygons feature may reduce the speed of the application.

MAX VM MEMORY -- The setting can not be changed from this dialog box.

The Max VM Memory setting is automatically enabled if you are using an
80386 processor with less than 10MB of virtual memory. The Max VM Memory
setting is used to change the amount of memory used by the program. The
setting indicates the number of 3K slots of memory Automap will use for map-
caching. The default setting is 350(approximately 1 MB).

Reducing this number significantly slows Automap performance. The degree
of speed reduction depends on your hard disk drive access speed.

To force Automap to use low memory settings, set the number to zero. To
change the setting, edit the [Main] section of the AUTOMAP.INI file and add
the line:

    MinMem=<n>

where <n> is the number of 3K slots you would like to use. For more
information about how to perform this task in Windows, see your Windows
printed documentation or online Help.

MASKED TEXT OUT -- Controls how the text masking (the white edging around
the place names on the map) is printed. This setting is used primarily when
printing a map that includes the Terrain Map. Masking default is Off if the
Terrain Map is in use. Some printers do not print the masking properly.

You can manually select a masking method by choosing one of the following
settings.

 - Normal: Default

 - Force Masking: Uses the Bit-by-Bit method -- the same
method used to display the map on your monitor.

 - Multiple Printing: Causes the printer to print white several times,
then print black. The method does not work on
                       Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet printers.

 - Text Out: Masking turned off.
