SUMMARY
=======

In a Works spreadsheet or database, if a tab-delimited text file contains
two spaces in a field, Works separates that information into two fields.

For example, if a text file contains the following information

   John Doe <tab> 16242 Street <Tab> Kansas City <space space> KS <tab>
   66111.

Works puts Kansas City in one column and the KS in the next column. If you
want the city and state information to appear in the same column, the extra
space between city and state need to be removed.

MORE INFORMATION
================

To remove the extra spaces from the document, do the following:

1. Open Works. From the Other Choices section in the Works Startup dialog
   box, choose Existing Documents.

2. In the Choose Type section, click the Word Processing icon.

3. In the File Format drop-down menu, choose the Text option.

4. From the list of files, open the Text document.

5. From the Edit menu, choose Replace.

6. In the Find What box, press the SPACEBAR twice.

7. In the Replace With box, press the space bar once.

8. Choose the Replace All button. This replaces all double spaces with
   single spaces.

9. Save the document as a Text document.

The document now can be opened as a Database a Spreadsheet document
without the city and state information being separated in different
columns.

Works interprets multiple spaces as a break in column and therefore treats
two or more consecutive spaces as a tab.
