The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Dinosaurs for Windows, version 1.0
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUMMARY
=======

Because of physical read limitations of some CD-ROM drives, you may not be
able to access some files and directories on the Dinosaurs CD-ROM. This
article lists some of those files and directories and explains how to test
your CD-ROM drive.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The CD-ROM drive may have difficulty reading the final two directories,
listed below, from the Dinosaurs CD-ROM:

DIRECTORIES LOCATION ON DISK
----------- ----------------

\xfiles 380-384MB
\xfiles\drivers\mvpas 379-380MB

To test for specific drive-capacity limitations, try to access the
file listed below:

FILE LOCATION ON DISK
---- ----------------

\xfiles\vbrun200.dll 384MB

The Dinosaurs CD-ROM contains 384 MB of data. The final file on the CD-ROM
is \xfiles\vbrun200.dll.

Testing Your CD-ROM Drive
-------------------------

To ensure the integrity of files that you have copied from your CD-ROM
drive to your hard disk drive, compare the files using the MS-DOS File
Compare program (Fc.exe). This test can be used to determine if the CD-ROM
subsystem is functioning properly at the device driver or hardware
level(s).

The Fc.exe utility is a useful method for testing problems related to
general protection (GP) faults or other critical errors (such as read
errors or out of memory messages) that can occur with Windows CD-ROM
applications.

Try to copy the following file to your hard disk drive. For more
information about how to perform this task in Windows, see your Windows
printed documentation or online Help.

FILE LOCATION ON DISK
---- ----------------

\xfiles\vbrun200.dll 384MB

If the following error message appears

   CDR101: Not Ready

the CD player cannot read the disk at the specified location.

If the file copies, test the file's integrity by using FC.EXE with the /B
(binary) switch. For example, to compare the Vbrun200.dll file on your CD
with the Vbrun200.dll file on your hard disk drive, type the following at
the MS-DOS command prompt and press ENTER

   fc /b d:\ xfiles\vbrun200.dll c:\vbrun200.dll

where your CD-ROM drive is drive D, and your hard disk drive is drive C.

If you receive errors, the CD-ROM drive is having problems reading the CD-
ROM at that location.
