SUMMARY
=======

Because of physical read limitations of some CD-ROM drives, you may not be able
to access some files and folders on the Bookshelf 1995 CD-ROM. This article
lists some of those files and folders and explains how to test your CD-ROM
drive.

MORE INFORMATION
================

The CD-ROM drive may have difficulty reading the final three folders, listed
below, from the CD-ROM.

+--------------------------------+
| FOLDERS | LOCATION ON DISK |
+--------------------------------+
| Word | 633 MB |
+--------------------------------+
| Mmcat\Dibs2 | 632-633 MB |
+--------------------------------+
| Mmcat\Dibs1 | 630-632 MB |
+--------------------------------+

To test for specific drive-capacity limitations, try to access the following
files:

+---------------------------------------------+
| FILES | LOCATION ON DISK |
+---------------------------------------------+
| Books\Zipcode\Street.idx | 569-628 MB |
+---------------------------------------------+
| Books\Mm\T057699a.avi | 560 MB |
+---------------------------------------------+
| Books\Mm\T057675a.avi | 541 MB |
+---------------------------------------------+

The Bookshelf CD-ROM contains 633 MB of data. The final file on the CD-ROM is
Word\Bsh.wll.

Testing Your CD-ROM Drive
-------------------------

To ensure the integrity of your files that have been copied from your CD-ROM
drive to your hard disk drive, compare the files using the MS- DOS File Compare
program (Fc.exe). This test can be used to determine if the CD-ROM subsystem is
functioning properly at the device driver or hardware level(s).

The Fc.exe utility is a useful method for testing problems related to general
protection (GP) faults or other critical errors (such as read errors or out of
memory messages) that may occur while running a CD- ROM application with
Windows.

Attempt to copy one of the following files to the hard drive.

+---------------------------------------------+
| FILES | LOCATION ON DISK |
+---------------------------------------------+
| Books\Zipcode\Street.idx | 569-628 MB |
+---------------------------------------------+
| Books\Mm\T057699a.avi | 560 MB |
+---------------------------------------------+
| Books\Mm\T057675a.avi | 541 MB |
+---------------------------------------------+

For more information about how to accomplish this task in Windows, see your
printed Windows documentation or online help.

If the following error message appears

   CDR101: Not Ready

the CD-ROM player cannot read the disk at the specified location.

If the file copies, test its integrity by using FC.EXE with the /B (binary)
switch. For example, to compare the Bsh.wll file on your CD with the Bsh.wll
file on your hard drive, type the following at the MS-DOS command prompt and
press ENTER:

   fc /b d:\word\bsh.wll c:\bsh.wll

where your CD-ROM drive is drive D and your hard disk drive is drive C.

If you receive errors, the CD-ROM drive is having problems reading the CD at that
location.
