SYMPTOMS
========

After you insert a PowerPoint 4.0 slide into a Word document and then save
the document and exit Word, the slide may not appear when you reopen the
document.

CAUSE
=====

When you insert a PowerPoint slide into Word, Word starts PowerPoint. This
allows you to create the slide and insert it into Word. The information
itself is not actually placed in the Word document until you exit
PowerPoint and instruct PowerPoint to update, or send, the information to
Word.

This problem occurs if you don't choose Exit And Return To <Document> from
the File menu in PowerPoint before you close Word. After you create the
slide, using the ALT+TAB keys to switch back to Word and quit the program
closes both Word and PowerPoint without any information exchange.

RESOLUTION
==========

To correctly insert a PowerPoint 4.0 slide, do the following:

1. Start Word 6.0.

2. On the Insert menu, click Object.

3. In the Object dialog box, double-click MS PowerPoint 4.0 Slide.

4. Choose any slide layout and type some text in the title area.

5. On the File menu, click Exit And Return To Document(x).

6. On Word's File menu, click Exit.

7. When asked to save the document, answer Yes and give the file a name.

8. Start Word 6.0 again and open the file created in step 7 above. The
   PowerPoint slide is now there.
