The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Word for Windows versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
 - Microsoft Windows operating system, version 3.1, 3.11
 - Microsoft Windows for Workgroups operating system, version 3.11

SYMPTOMS
========

When a Word version 5.0, 5.5, or 6.0 for MS-DOS document containing links
to PCX graphic files is opened into Word 6.0 for Windows under Windows 3.x
or Windows for Workgroups 3.x, the PCX images in the Word for MS-DOS file
may appear distorted.

CAUSE
=====

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the PCX graphic import
filter supplied with Word versions 6.0, 6.0a, and 6.0c for Windows. We are
researching this problem and will post new information here in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND
==========

Following conversion, click Select All on the Edit menu, and press F9 to
update fields. Word reinserts each PCX image from the original graphic file
on disk, and the images are displayed correctly.
