SUMMARY
=======
 
When you type the amount of a transaction in Microsoft Money, you may
receive the following error message:
 
   Error: 'xxx.xx' is an invalid amount.
 
CAUSE
=====
 
This can be caused by incorrect settings in the Windows Control Panel.
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
NOTE: Because there are several versions of Windows, the following steps
may be different on your computer. If they are, please consult your product
documentation to complete these steps.
 
To set the correct settings, follow the steps below for the version of
Windows installed on your computer:
 
Windows NT Workstation 4.0, Windows 95/98
-----------------------------------------
 
1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
 
2. Double-click the Regional Settings icon.
 
3. Click the Number tab.
 
4. In the Decimal Symbol box, verify that the decimal separator is a
   period. If you are unsure, change it to a period.
 
5. Click Apply, and then click OK to close the Control Panel.
 
Windows 3.x
-----------
 
1. Quit Money.
 
2. In Program Manager, open the Main program group.
 
3. Double-click Control Panel.
 
4. Double-click the International icon.
 
5. In the International dialog box, click Number.
 
6. In the Number Format box, verify that the decimal separator is a period.
   If you are unsure, change it to a period.
 
7. Click OK to close the Number box. Then close the International window,
   Control Panel window, and Main program group window.
 
8. Start Money and re-enter the transaction.
