SYMPTOMS
========

When you open a Microsoft Word 2.x document into Word 6.x and later,
paragraph marks are incorrectly inserted into FILLIN field results if the
original FILLIN fields in Word 2.x contain line-break (newline)
characters.

CAUSE
=====

This problem occurs because the Word 2.0 converter incorrectly inserts
control character 13 (a paragraph mark) before each line-break character
(control character 11) during import. If you update the field following
conversion, these paragraph marks become extra unwanted line breaks.

WORKAROUND
==========

To work around this problem, remove the unwanted paragraph marks or line-
break characters following conversion.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Word
products listed at the beginning of this article.
