To troubleshoot printer-related issues, try some of the following
suggestions:

1. Make sure a printer is installed, and that it is using
the latest printer driver. To verify the driver version number, do the
    following:

    a. On the File menu, click Page Setup. The version number is in the
upper-right corner of the dialog box.

2. Print with Extensions Off. To print this way, press and hold down the
SHIFT key while you restart the computer.

3. Make sure the local printer is connected to the printer port and
not the modem line. To check if the printer is configured correctly, do
    the following:

    a. On the Apple menu, click Chooser. The dialog box tells you where
       the printer is connected.

4. Check Print Preview before you print. If the preview doesn't appear,
    Automap cannot print.

NOTE: Not all printer drivers have a Print Preview option.

5. Make sure the Printing in Background option is not running. To
determine if Printing in Background is in use, do the following:

    a. On the Apple menu, click Chooser.

    b. Click on the appropriate printer icon.

    c. The Printing in Background box should not be checked.

6. Disable any other programs running in the background. To determine if
other programs are running, do the following:

    a. Click the Finder.

    b. The Finder should be the only application listed in the
       drop-down menu.

    c. Close any other programs.

7. If possible, use another printer or printer driver. For example, you
might try to install an earlier version of the printer driver.

8. Make sure the hard disk space has enough available space. At least one
megabyte of hard disk space is required for the printer file to spool
    to the hard disk.

To determine available hard disk space, do the following:

    a. Double-click your hard drive icon.

    b. In the upper-right corner of the dialog box, make sure at least 1 MB
       is available.

9. If no printer or fax is installed, the following error message
appears the first time Automap is started:

Could not start application because a disk error occurred.

10. A disk error also occurs if the printer icon is removed from the
Automap folder. The icon must remain in the same folder as the Data
    file.

To place an icon on the desktop without moving the printer icon, use
the Make Alias option on the File menu.
