SUMMARY
=======

PowerPoint 4.0 works with sounds only when they are in the form of a
QuickTime Movie. Fortunately, PowerPoint can convert certain types of
sound files to QuickTime. The remainder of this article explains the
different sound files PowerPoint can use.

MORE INFORMATION
================

PowerPoint 4.0 can convert the following types of Macintosh sound files:

Format                         Type      Description
------                         ----      -----------

System 7 Sound File sfil This type of sound is commonly
                                         found in the system suitcase.
                                         Wild Eep is a system sound.

Audio Interchange File Format AIFF An audio standard used by many
                                         multimedia applications such
                                         as Adobe Premiere.

QuickTime Movie MooV This is the standard QuickTime
                                         file format. No conversion is
                                         necessary.

To insert sounds into a PowerPoint presentation, follow these steps:

1. In PowerPoint 4.0, click Movie on the the Insert menu.

2. Select the sound that you want to insert and then click Convert.

3. Type a name for the movie and click Save. PowerPoint converts the
   sound to a Quicktime Movie.

4. PowerPoint inserts the converted movie into the presentation.

5. In PowerPoint 4.0, click Scale on the Draw menu, and select 200%.

NOTE: The movie appears on the screen as a very small object with grab
handles. Because it is so small, it can be difficult to double-click it and
play it in Edit mode. If you lose track of where the object is, choose
Select All from the Edit menu. This allows you to see all grab handles and
locate the movie.

RECOMMENDATION: If you want to click the movie to play it during the Slide
Show rather than have it play upon the transition, you can place a
picture or icon on the movie object so that it is easy to identify and
click during the slide show.
