Thank you for using Microsoft Encarta Intro Edition. We
hope you enjoy it!
 
Setting Up
----------
 
To install Encarta Intro Edition, double-click the Encarta
Installer icon. Installation should take about 10 minutes
running at 14.4 Kbps and will require approximately 1Mbyte
of hard-drive space.
 
Using It
--------
 
Once you double-click the Encarta Intro Edition  icon, you
will notice a 10 to 50 second delay before you see the
introduction screen.
 
Encarta Intro Edition is an easy-to-use online encyclopedia.
To find any article, click the Find button, which launches
the Pinpointer search tool. In the Pinpointer, type a topic
name then press ENTER on your keyboard. Or scroll the title
list and click a title to display the article.
 
The Encarta Pinpointer has 3 filters to help you home in on
just the articles you want.
 
1. Word filter - Search for articles that contain any word
   you specify.
 
2. Category filter - Find all the articles in your areas of
   interest.
 
3. Images filter - Find all the articles that contain
   pictures and maps.

available when you press F1 on your keyboard, or see the
Encarta Intro Edition features document in the MSN Encarta
Forum.
 
Sending Feedback

Please send us your bug reports using the Bug Reporting tool
located in the Encarta Intro Edition Forum. Bugs should be
reported in the following way:
 
   1) Check the rest of this document to make sure that we
      are not already aware of your bug.
 
   2) Get your system information from the About Encarta
      command, on the Information menu in Encarta Intro
      Edition.
 
   3) Click the Bug Reporter icon to download the Bug
      Reporter application, then follow the directions for
      sending bugs.
 
If you have any questions regarding billing, error messages,
or other system problems, the quickest way to get an answer
is to find it in the MSN Member Assistance area. If you
don't find the answer there, you can call Microsoft Customer
Support for billing and subscription issues, or Microsoft
Technical Support for software or hardware problems or
questions. Please have your MSN Member ID handy when you
call.

Uninstalling Encarta Intro Edition
----------------------------------
 
To remove Encarta Intro Edition from your hard drive, goto
the directory c:\Program Files\The Microsoft Network. Delete
the following files:
 
 - Encarta.3in
 - Encart95.exe
 - Arial.ttf
 - MSRef1.ttf
 - MSRef2.ttf
 
This will free approximately 1.59Mbytes of diskspace.
 
Known Bugs and Features Not Yet Implemented
-------------------------------------------
 
1. Encarta Intro Edition must be started from within MSN, it
will not run if clicked from the explorer in Win95.
 
2. There is a known problem displaying more than 500 images
in a session; maximum number of images is 500 per session.
We are working on a fix.
 
3. There is a know problem printing images on some printers,
an error message appears "Check Printer Setup".  We are
working on a fix to this problem.
 
4. If you click the Encarta icons and a blank dialog box
appears with the " ! " symbol, this indicates the
Encar95.exe file was not found. Use the installer to
download Encarta again.
 
5. The Outline scrollbar does not extend to the bottom of
the Outline if you select these Views: Main Outline, or Text
Outline. We are working on a fix.
 
6. Images lose quality when pasted into another application.
To improve their appearance, change the color settings on
your system. In the Win95 Control Panel, select the Settings
tab, then change your colors to 256 or  16-bit colors. The
recommended minimum color setting is 256 colors.
 
7. An error message occurs if you attempt to open the
Notemark List, this error does not effect the functionality
of the application. We are working on a fix.
 
8. Sorry, no sound, maximized photos, video clips, or
interactivites, in this version of Encarta Intro Edition.
