SUMMARY
=======

When you import an EPS graphic created in a Paint-type graphics program
into PowerPoint, the graphic appears with a rectangular background. Using
certain graphics programs, however, you can define a clipping path so that
you can import the EPS graphic with an irregular background.

The procedure that follows is not necessary if the graphic was created in a
Draw-type program. Vector-based (or Draw-type) graphics are not pixel-maps
and can be shaped irregularly without having a clipping path.

MORE INFORMATION
================

In many graphics programs, when you save an EPS graphic, you have the
option to save it with a clipping path so that you can import it into other
programs with the background masked out. The following example uses the
commands in Adobe PhotoShop 3.0, although any high-end graphics program
should have similar commands.

Within PhotoShop, create a clipping path by following these steps:

1. Select the graphic you want to import by using a freeform selection tool
   such as the lasso.

2. On the menu in the Paths palette, click Make Path.

3. On the menu in the Paths palette, click Save Path, and save the path
   as Path 1.

4. On the File menu, click Save As, select EPS, and then click Save. Note
   that the EPS Format dialog box appears.

5. Under Path, select Path 1, and then click OK.

6. Click Picture on the Insert menu.

7. Select the saved EPS file and click Insert. Note that this brings the
   image into PowerPoint with the background masked out.
