SYMPTOMS
========
 
When you print from a Deskjet, you may receive black bars instead of the
expected text or graphics. This may be caused by your printer or video
driver.
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
Determining If the Problem Is Your Printer Driver
-------------------------------------------------
 
To determine if the problem is caused by your printer driver, follow these
steps:
 
1. Open Control Panel and click the Printers icon.
 
2. Select your printer in the Installed Printers list and click the Setup
   button.
 
3. Check the Print Quality setting. If it is set to Automatic, change it to
   Color Graphics, Black text, or Greyscale.
 
4. Click OK and close the Printers dialog box.
 
5. Close Control Panel and try to print again.

Determining If the Problem Is Caused By Your Video Driver
---------------------------------------------------------
 
To determine if the problem is caused by your video driver, follow these
steps.
 
NOTE: It is highly recommended that you make a backup copy of your
SYSTEM.INI file before proceeding. For more information about how to
perform this task in Windows, see your Windows printed documentation or
Help.
 
1. From the Main group, click the Windows Setup icon.
 
2. On the Options menu, click Change System Settings.
 
3. Change the Display to VGA and click OK.
 
4. Choose the Current driver when prompted.
 
5. Choose Restart Windows when prompted.
 
6. Start Money and try to print something.
 
If these steps resolve the problem, contact your video card manufacturer
for an updated driver or use the VGA driver.
 
This problem has been experienced on computers using the Trident AGI driver
with 1024x768x56c, 800X600x256, and 640x480x256 color resolutions Switching
to VGA has resolved this. Trident's phone number is (415)691-9211
