MORE INFORMATION
================

NOTE: It is recommended that you complete any unsent Online Services
transactions from your Money 3.0 file before you upgrade. Also, make sure
your Money data file is properly closed. To do this, open the data file
in your previous version of Money, and then exit the program. If you are
prompted that Money needs to make repairs to the file, allow it to do so,
and then exit Money.

When you start the upgrade, Setup searches your hard disk for a previous
version of Money. If Setup locates an existing version, it suggests that
you install Microsoft Money for Windows 95 in the same location. Setup
updates the program files and removes program files that are no longer
required.

Money for Windows 95 Setup does not overwrite existing data files, unless
the data file has the same name as a program file or data file Money for
Windows 95 is installing. This is highly unlikely. File loss or damage
during the setup process is extremely rare. However, it's good practice
to back up important documents before you install any software.

Version 4.0a
------------

When you start Money version 4.0a for Windows 95, it automatically opens
your pre-existing Money data file, if it still exists on your system. It
will convert the previous data file to the new Money for Windows 95
format at the time the file is opened. Money conveniently offers you the
option of backing up your data in the old format before converting.

Version 4.0
-----------

Early copies of Money version 4.0 for Windows 95, do not automatically
open your pre-existing data file after upgrading. The first time you
start Money, a data file called My Money.mny opens. You can manually open
your original money file by following the steps below.

Opening Existing Money Files
----------------------------

To open an existing data file, do the following:

1. Start Money for Windows 95.

2. On the File menu, click Open.

3. Select the data file you want to open, and then click OK.

Finding Money Files
-------------------

If you cannot find the file you want to open in the current folder, you
can use Windows 95 to find the file. To find the file, do the following:

1. Close Money.

2. Click the Start button, point to Find, and then click Files Or
Folders.

3. Type the following, and then click Find Now:

      mny

4. Double-click the file you want to open in Money. Money opens with
   the file.

Opening Backup Files
--------------------

To open a Money backup (.bak) file, do the following:

 1. Click the Start button, point to Programs, and then click Windows
    Explorer.

 2. Double-click the folder that contains your backup file to open the
    folder.

 3. With your right mouse button, click the backup file. Then, click
    Copy.

 4. Open the Microsoft Money folder.

 5. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

 6. With your right mouse button, click the backup file you just
pasted into the Money folder. Then, click Rename.

 7. Retype the filename, changing the extension from .bak to .mny. For
example, if your backup file is named Msmoney.bak, type the
    following and then press ENTER:

       msmoney.mny

NOTE: By default in Windows 95, you will not see the three-letter
file extension. Be sure to type the new .mny extension.

 8. Double-click the file. Money will now open and use the data from
    this file.

Keeping Older Versions of Money
-------------------------------

Although you can keep your previous version of Money and install Money
for Windows 95 in a different folder, the practice is not recommended.
Maintaining two versions of Money on the same computer uses valuable hard
disk space, and can cause errors and confusion.
