INSTALLING AUTOMAP TO WINDOWS 3.X
=================================

If you are running Microsoft Windows 3.x, follow these steps. When copying
files, exit Windows and copy from the MS-DOS command prompt. Allow MS-DOS
to overwrite any files it finds already on your hard drive. These steps
involve creating, copying and editing files and folders. For more
information about how to perform these tasks in Windows, see your Windows
printed documentation or online Help.

(If you are using Windows 95, see the "Windows 95 Notes" section at the end
of this article.)

1. At the MS-DOS command prompt, change to the D:\Mssetup\Manual
   folder and run the Pss.bat file. Type the following command and press
   ENTER:

      pss c:\automap c:\windows d:

   The manual installation program copies and decompresses the files
   required to run Streets 4.0.

2. Use a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad, to make the following
   changes to the Win.ini file located in the Windows folder.

   NOTE: If a section does not exist, add it to the appropriate file.

   a. Add the following line to the [Microsoft System Info] section if
      not already present:

         msinfo=c:\windows\msapps\msinfo\msinfo.exe

   b. Add the following entries to the [Msapps] section if not already
      present:

         msapps=c:\windows\msapps
         msinfo=c:\windows\msapps\msinfo

   c. Add the following entries to the [Ms Shareres] section if not
      already present:

         path=c:\automap

      If the Path= entry exists, add "c:\automap" (without the quotation
      marks) to the end of the line separating the entry with a ";". For
      example, if the Path= entry is

         Path=c:\windows;c:\dos

      add the ";" (without the quotation marks) after the "s" in dos. The
      new line appears as

         Path=c:\windows;c:\dos;c:\automap

3. Use a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad, to make the following
   changes to the Winhelp.ini file located in the Windows folder.

   a. Add the following entries to the [Files] section if not already
      present:

         amw4help.dll=c:\automap

4. Create the Streets program group in Program Manager.

   a. On the file menu in Program Manager, click New and select Program
      Group. Click OK.

   b. In the Program Group Properties Description field, type "Microsoft
      Multimedia" (without the quotation marks) and click OK.

5. Create two icons in the Microsoft Multimedia group. To create an item,
   do the following:

   a. On the file menu in Program Manager, click New and select Program
      Item. Click OK.

   b. Copy the information for each item into the fields of the Program
      Items Properties dialog box. Click OK.

      Item 1:
      Description: Microsoft Automap Streets Read Me
      Command Line:         write c:\automap\read_me.wri
      Working Directory:    c:\automap

      Item 2:
      Description:          Microsoft Automap Streets
      Command Line:         c:\automap\ams4.exe
      Working Directory:    c:\automap

6. Restart Windows.

After you restart Windows, the manual installation is complete.

WINDOWS 95 NOTES
================

The Pss.bat batch file may be used in Windows 95 IF you manually check the
version of the shared files (those copied to the C:\Windows folder). These
files are:

   Mvfs12.dll     56,832     9-07-95    Windows\System
   Dib.drv        30,544     1-27-95    Windows\System
   Shareres.dll   37,888     1-27-95    Windows\System
   Ctl3dv2.dll    21,648     2-01-95    Windows\System
   Msinfo.exe     40,960     1-27-95    Windows\Msapps\Msinfo

If any files on your machine are newer than the files being installed,
rename the newer files and run the Pss.bat batch file. When you are
finished, rename the files to their original filenames. Overwrite the
necessary files (when the renamed files are newer then those installed).
