SYMPTOMS
========

When running PowerPoint Setup, you may receive a dialog box containing a
message similar to the following:

Connect to the shared disk Macintosh HD as..

This may happen even if you start the computer with all extensions off.

RESOLUTION
==========

You can eliminate this problem by creating a clean System Folder that
contains just the System, Finder, and any applicable System Enablers. The
following steps illustrate how to create a clean System Folder and install
PowerPoint:

Method 1:
---------

1. Drag the Preferences folder out of the System Folder, to the desktop.

NOTE: Dragging the Preferences folder out of the System Folder, may
cause some systems not to boot. Make sure you have a bootable disc.

2. Restart the machine. This will create a new Preferences folder. The
setup will now run as expected.

3. After the setup is finished, return the old preference file, on the
desktop, to the new Preferences folder.

Note: Do not overwrite any Preferences that were created by the Setup
program. Doing this may cause PowerPoint to function incorrectly.

Method 2:
---------

 1. On the root level of the hard disk, create a new untitled folder by
clicking New Folder on the File menu.

 2. Open the System Folder and copy the System, Finder, and System Enabler,
if any, to the new folder.

 3. Rename the System Folder "Storage" and rename the untitled folder
    "System Folder."

 4. Restart the computer.

 5. Insert Disk 1 of the PowerPoint Setup disks in the disk drive and
    double-click Microsoft PowerPoint Setup.

 6. When Setup is complete, copy items from the Extensions folder, Control
Panels folder, and Preferences folder in the newly created System
Folder to their corresponding locations in the folder called Storage.

 7. Open the Storage folder and click Select All on the Edit menu.

 8. Click the group of highlighted files and drag them to the newly created
    System Folder.

 9. The computer will indicate that certain files you are copying already
exist in the target location and ask if you want to replace them with
the ones you are moving. Click OK.

10. Restart the computer.

PowerPoint setup should now work as expected.
