SYMPTOMS
========
 
In Microsoft Word 6.0 for the Macintosh, when you open a Word for the 
Macintosh version 5.x document that contains a link to another document, 
you may receive the following error message:
 
   Error! Not a valid link.
 
CAUSE
=====
 
The document you opened contains a link to an untitled document that had
not been saved before you created the link in Word 5.x. To determine
whether the link is untitled, open the document in Word 5.x, select the
object, and then point to Link Options on the Edit menu.
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
To avoid this problem in the future, save the Word 5.x source document
before you create the link.
 
To correct the problem when you open a Word 5.x document in Word 6.0, 
follow these steps:
 
1. On the Edit menu, click Links.
 
2. Select the link.
 
3. Click Change Source.
 
4. Select the source file and then click Open.
 
5. Click Update Now.
 
6. Click Close.
