The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Money 98
 - Microsoft Money versions 4.0, 4.0, 5.0 for Windows 95
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you install Microsoft Money 98, 5.0 or 4.0, you may receive the
following error message:

   Setup has determined that your previous Money version has an
   unfinished communication with on-line services. This communication
   should be completed using your current version before installing a
   new version.

    - Press Exit to quit setup. You should open your Money file in your
      current version and complete the communication.

    - Press Continue to replace your current Money version without
      completing the communication. This is not recommended.

CAUSE
=====

This message indicates Money is still tracking an unfinished
communication session for one of your data files. This must be
corrected before the new version is installed.

You may receive this error message even if you are installing to
a new directory (not over the previous version), or if you have an
unfinished communication for a file you are not currently using.

NOTE: If you are not able to choose Continue or Exit, you must
click the close button (X) in the upper right corner of the dialog box.

During Setup, Money searches for the presence of communication files. The
file names vary depending upon the version of Money. Communication files
are named with your data file name plus particular file extensions. The
following table lists the possible file extensions used for communication
files in each version of Money.

   Version              Extensions
   -------              ----------

   Money 3.0             .snd
                         .rcv
