SYMPTOM
=======

If you copy a slide from the PowerPoint Slide Sorter and paste it into
Adobe PhotoShop, the slide pastes in at a very high resolution (576 pixels
per inch.)

CAUSE
=====

This is not a problem with either PowerPoint or PhotoShop, but rather a
feature of PhotoShop that preserves the high printing quality of the image.

Slides copied from PowerPoint are vector based; they are composed of
mathematically defined lines, curves, and fills. When pasted, these lines,
curves, and fills are converted into a bitmapped image where pixels are
displayed on an invisible grid in Adobe PhotoShop. A bitmapped image, in
contrast to a vector-based image, does not contain special instructions for
the printer. By bringing in the image at a very high resolution, PhotoShop
can print the image without loss of definition.
