SUMMARY
=======

This article explains how to cross-dissolve between two backgrounds.

For example, say you put two backgrounds side by side, add a transparency
(with curveFX) between the two, and then set the transparency to go from
100 percent to 0 percent. The first background goes in the background
column and the second background goes into in the next column. This article
explains how to have the first dissolve into the second.

MORE INFORMATION
================

Here's an example. Say you have these two marvelous pieces of art. One is a
night scene, and the other is a morning scene. You want to have the night
scene dissolve into the morning. This is known as a cross-dissolve.

Say you want to do the cross-dissolve in 20 frames from frame 10 to frame
30. Here's how:

1. In the Xsheet, in the first column (BG column), place your first
   background as usual.

2. In the first animation column, place your second background. However, be
   sure to place both backgrounds on the same peg bar (usually the top
   one).

3. Select the second background, and on the CurveFX menu, click New. A
   small window will appear called Transformation with a list of options.
   Click the Transparency option, and then click OK. Toonz will put a new
   and somewhat smaller column between the two background columns. This is
   the F/X column.

4. Using the mouse, select the area where you want to apply the
   transformation, say from the frame 10 to 30 included.

5. On the CurveFX menu, clike Change. A small Curves Change window will
   appear. Type 100% in the Start field, and leave the End value at 0%.
   Click OK. The new value will automatically appear on the Xsheet.

Now you will see that beginning with frame 31, the new background is in
place. From that point (from that frame), you can delete the old
background, so Toonz won't waste time calculating a background that no
longer appears.
