The information in this article applies to:
 
 - Softimage Toonz for IRIX, version 3.5

SYMPTOMS
========
 
Toonz does not recognize the scanner. Toonz can't find the scanner or it
can't initialize the scanner.
 
CAUSE
=====
 
Here are five possibles causes:
 
 - The scanner is not well connected; that is the SCSI cable or power cord
   is loose, or the power is not on.
 
   -or-
 
 - You did not turn the scanner on before you turned the computer on.
 
   -or-
 
 - You did not reboot the computer after you've set up everything.
 
   -or-
 
 - There is still some packaging left in or around the scanner that
   prevents it from working properly.
 
   -or-
 
 - You did not correctly perform the installation procedure (link and
   change mode).
 
RESOLUTION
==========
 
To resolve the problem, follow these steps:
 
1. Verify all connections (SCSI and power cord), on/off switch, and so on.
 
2. Shut down everything. Then turn on all your peripherals including the
   scanner before you turn on your computer.
 
3. After setting everything up, reboot your computer.
 
4. Verify that there is no packaging left inside or outside the scanner
   that would prevent it from working properly.
 
5. See the installation procedure for the scanner, appendix "C", page 1,
   from the User's Guide.

This behavior is by design.
