SYMPTOMS
========

The name of an investment fails to appear in the Investment Portfolio
in Money; however, when you try to create a new investment with the
same name as one that is missing, you receive the following error
message:

   The name is already being used for an existing investment.
   Please enter a different name.

CAUSE
=====

This problem may occur only when all of the following conditions are
true:

 - An investment has been owned in the past, but is later sold.

 - An investment is deleted from the Investment Portfolio.

   NOTE: You can delete an investment only when zero shares of that
   investment are owned.

   -and-

 - That same investment is renamed to the name of another existing
   investment of the same type. For example, stock One is renamed to
   stock Two.

NOTE: The investment missing from the Investment Portfolio may not be
the same investment that was renamed.

RESOLUTION
==========

To resolve this problem, upgrade to Money 5.0 for Windows 95 or use
either of the following methods.

Method 1
--------

The easiest resolution to this problem is to force Money for Windows 95
to rebuild its indexes. To do this, use the following steps:

1. On the File menu, click Archive. In the text box on the Archive
   dialog box, type in today's date and click OK.

2. In the File Name box, type in a file name for a backup file or
   accept the default.

   NOTE: This creates a backup copy of your existing file.

3. Click OK.

4. For each subsequent dialog box, click the Don't Remove Any
   Transactions option, and then click OK.

5. When Money asks you if you would you like to archive all of your
   price histories before <today's date>, click No.

Your file should now be repaired.

Method 2
--------

Export all the accounts, and import them to a new file. For additional
information on how to do this, please see the following article in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION
================

After an investment has been deleted from the Investment Portfolio, you
can rename the investment only by accessing the Details for that
investment from outside the Investment Portfolio. To access the
Investment Details screen, right-click either of the following, and
then click Details:

 - A transaction for the investment in an account register

   -or-

 - A line for the investment in a report.
