The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Automap Road Atlas for Windows, version 4.0
 - Microsoft Automap Streets, version 4.0
 - Microsoft Windows 95
-------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

After you print a map or table from Automap, you may receive a general
protection (GP) fault, or the computer may stop responding (hang).

The problem occurs when you use the installed Windows 95 printer
drivers.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Automap programs listed
at the top of this article. We are researching this problem and will post
new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available.

RESOLUTION
==========

If the computer has stopped responding, restart the computer. If the system
is not stopped responding, exit Windows and restart the computer.

Select a new printer driver. Select a printer driver capable of emulating
your printer, or install a Windows 3.x printer driver designed for your
printer. For more information about selecting a new printer driver, see the
MORE INFORMATION section in this article.

For more information about installing printer drivers, see your Windows
printed documentation or online help.

Whenever a GP fault occurs, completely shut-down (power down) Windows and
reset the computer. The preferred method is to turn off the computer. A
system power down clears all of the stacks and buffers within the computer
hardware. A warm boot (CTRL+ALT+DEL) does not clear registers and the
system memory remains unstable.

Inappropriately shutting the system down, or rebooting the system when
Windows has not been properly exited may cause cross-linked files or
lost allocation units. After the system has completed the start up
process, running a disk utility program such as ScanDisk is highly
recommended.
