The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft PowerPoint for the Macintosh, version 4.0
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When trying to run the Quick Preview from PowerPoint 4.0, you may
receive a message similar to the following:

   Not enough memory to run Macromedia Player.

With certain machine configurations, the Quick Preview requires more
memory to operate.

CAUSE
=====

The more pixels and the more colors the Quick Preview must output to the
screen, the more memory it requires. The default Quick Preview memory
setting of 2048K is enough for most configurations. However, if your
monitor's color depth is set to 24-bit (Millions of Colors), or has a high
resolution selected (832 x 624 or greater), or both, the Quick Preview
needs more memory available to display.

RESOLUTION
==========

Three possible resolutions are listed below.

Method 1: Change Your Color Depth
---------------------------------

Reduce the colors available to your System by changing the color depth.

1. On the Apple menu, click Control Panels.

2. Double-click Monitors.

3. In the Settings section, click Thousands.

Try running the Quick Preview again. If you still receive the "Not enough
memory" error message, return to the Monitors control panel and change the
setting to 256 colors.

Method 2: Try Changing Your Resolution
--------------------------------------

Reduce the screen resolution used by the monitor. To do this:

1. On the Apple menu, click Control Panels.

2. Double-click Monitors.

3. Click Options.

4. Select 640 x 480. Click OK.

   Some systems may not have the option to use 640 x 480. With those
   systems, you will need to use one of the other methods.

Method 3: Allocate more memory to the Quick Preview
---------------------------------------------------

Allocate more memory to the Quick Preview. To do this:

1. Navigate to the PowerPoint 4.0 Folder.

2. Single-click Quick Preview to select it.

3. On the File menu, click Get Info.

4. Add 1000 to the Preferred Size.

   Keep adding 1000 to the preferred size until the Quick Preview runs. The
   additional amount of memory to add will vary based on the settings in
   the Monitors Control Panel.
