SYMPTOMS
========

When you open a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation created with an earlier
or different platform version of PowerPoint, you may receive a message
similar to one the following:

   This presentation is from a previous version of PowerPoint. It will
   be updated to the current version and opened as read-only.

   -or-

   This presentation is from a previous version of PowerPoint. If
   you save it, it will be updated to the current version.

   -or-

   This is a Windows PowerPoint file. It will be translated and opened
   as read-only.

   -or-

   This is a Macintosh PowerPoint file. It will be translated and
   opened as read-only.

CAUSE
=====

These messages indicate that PowerPoint is opening a copy of the
presentation.

RESOLUTION
==========

You can work with these files as you would any PowerPoint file. To
eliminate the read-only message, save the presentation in the current
version of PowerPoint.

NOTE: When you click Save (on the File menu) you may receive a
message stating:

   This file is read-only.

Your only option is to click OK, after which the Save As dialog box will
appear. It is recommend to give the presentation a different name to
preserve the original presentation.
