SYMPTOMS
========

When you attempt to perform a backup, restore, or compare operation in
Microsoft Backup, or attempt to close Backup after performing a backup,
restore, or compare operation, you may receive the following error
message:

   Microsoft Backup has encountered a serious error in List Manager.
   Quit and restart Backup, and then try again.

RESOLUTION
==========

To work around this problem, add the following lines to the [386Enh]
section of the System.ini file in the Windows folder (if the lines are
not already present)

   PagingFile=c:\<windows>\win386.swp
   Paging=On

where <windows> is the name of your Windows folder. If the Windows swap
file (Win386.swp) is not located in the Windows folder, or the Windows
folder is not located on drive C, modify the line to reflect the actual
location of the Windows swap file.

NOTE: If you let Windows 95 manage your virtual memory settings, the
Windows swap file may not be located on drive C. To locate the Windows
swap file, use the Find command on the Start menu, or on the Tools menu
in Windows Explorer.

After adding these lines to the System.ini file, restart your computer and
try to perform the backup, restore, or compare operation again.
