SYMPTOMS
========

If you double-click an embedded Word document in a PowerPoint presentation
and then click Page Setup on the File menu, you may find that the Word
document has a custom page size of 6-by-9 inches.

This can occur even if the original Word document did not have a custom
page size or had a page size that was different from 6-by-9 inches.

CAUSE
=====

When you copy a table or text from Word and then paste it as an embedded
object into another program that supports OLE, a Word document that
contains the selected text is embedded into your destination file. If the
text selected from the original Word document does not include the ending
paragraph mark, a default custom paper size of 6-by-9 inches is used.

RESOLUTION
==========

If you include the ending paragraph mark in your selection before you copy
and paste it, the object behaves differently. The ending paragraph mark in
Word is a special character. This paragraph mark stores the document's
margin information as well as some other formatting and page setup
information. The embedded Word document will use the margin settings stored
within the ending paragraph mark to determine the paper size of that
object.

For example, if you have a custom paper size of 5-by-7 inches with the
margins set at 1.5 inches for the left and right and 1 inch for the top and
bottom, the embedded object will have a custom paper size of 2-by-5 inches.
The width is calculated by subtracting the left and right margins, and the
height is calculated by subtracting the top and bottom margins.
