The information in this article applies to:

 - Microsoft Works for the Macintosh, versions 4.0, 4.0a, 4.0b
----------------------------------------------------------------------

SYMPTOMS
========

When you open high-resolution images in Works, they open at a large size
with only one sizing handle showing. This makes the images difficult to
resize.

STATUS
======

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Works versions 4.0, 4.0a,
and 4.0b for the Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post
new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes
available.

WORKAROUND
==========

To resize the objects use the following instructions for your type of
printer.

LaserJet or LaserWriter
-----------------------

NOTE: These steps are for printers with a reduction option, such as a
LaserJet or LaserWriter.

1. On the View Menu, point to Zoom and pick the 25 percent zoom.

2. On the File Menu, click Page Setup.

3. In the Reduce Or Enlarge Text box, type "25" (without the quotation
   marks). Click OK.

4. The full image should now be visible on the screen.

5. To make the image smaller, press and hold down the SHIFT key while you
   drag a corner of the image.

   NOTE: Holding down the SHIFT key allows Works to perform a constrained
   resize. This means width is reduced by the same amount as the height.
   This keeps the image from distorting as it is resized.

6. Position the image in the top-left corner of the screen.

7. Repeat Steps 1-3, and return the settings to 100 percent.

Other Printers
--------------

Use the following instructions if your printer does not allow for a 25
percent reduction or does not have a reduction option.

1. On the Apple Menu, click the Chooser.

2. Note the printer you are using. Select LaserWriter as your printer.

3. Close Chooser.

4. Complete steps 1-7 in the LaserWriter Or LaserJet section of this
   article.

5. Open Chooser again. Select the printer you noted in Step 2.

6. Close Chooser.

NOTE: The LaserWriter is a standard system print driver located in the
Chooser. If the LaserWriter is not on the Chooser menu, you need to install
this driver.

The LaserWriter driver is usually included with the System Software that
comes with the Macintosh computer. For more information about installing
the LaserWriter driver, see your Macintosh printed documentation or online
Help.
